On July 29th, Kosta Nani. one of our Altar Servers, delivered backpacks and numerous school supplies to an Albanian School which educates appoximately 80 students from Grade 1 through 9 (approximately 10 students per grade).
Kosta put together a project to donate backpacks and school supplies for a school called Shkolla “6 Dëshmorët” in Kamenice-Korçë, or “6 Martyrs” School which is in Kamenicë, a small community in Korçë County, southeastern Albania. St. George parishioners made direct purchases and donations of various supplies along with a total of $600 in cash donations, which was collected during our weekly Charity collection. Kosta purchased additional supplies and backpacks with the cash donations.
The Nani family packed up 247 lbs of backpacks and supplies into 7 different suitcases/backpacks (1 large suitcase, 4 carry-on suitcases, and 2 backpacks) which they carried with them on their flight to Albania for their summer vacation. Kosta donated the backpacks and supplies to the school on July 29th.
On his return and after Divine Liturgy on Sunday, August 24th, Kosta thanked the parishioners of St. George for their contributions, and discussed the joyfulness of the school students receiving the backpacks. Kosta has also prepared a poster board with many photographs from the Albanian school who received the school supplies - that poster board is displayed in the church hall.
St. George wishes to congratulate Kosta on a project well done. Additionally, we wish to thank Kosta's family - his father Olsi, his mother Ledi, and his brothers Evan and Nikolas who helped by donating a large portion of the supplies, helped carry the supplies with them when flying to Albania, and for taking all the photos at the school. And a final thank you goes out to our parishioners who helped support Kosta's project by purchasing school supplies and/or donating money.
Below please find numerous photos. There are a few short videos that will be uploaded to our YouTube channel in a few days.
