St. George commissioned an icon of St. George for our 100th Anniversary year. St. George was notified that we will be receiving a relic of St. George from the Albanian Orthodox Archdiocese in America during Divine Liturgy on June 22nd (the day we are celebrating our 100th Anniversary). The St. George relics will be enshrined in a small reliquary at the bottom of this icon.
On Sunday May 25th after Divine Liturgy, St. George received the icon from Dhimitri Cika, the iconographer who “wrote” the icon for us (in the Eastern Orthodox tradition, icons are said to be "written," not painted, emphasizing a spiritual and theological process rather than a purely artistic one). The reliquary will be enshrined in this icon and blessed during our 100th Anniversary celebration, and will be prepared for a final location in our church for parishioners to venerate. Below are a few photos of the receipt of this icon.
