
St. George celebrated the Feast of the Procession of the Life-Giving Cross on Sunday, July 31st with a procession of the Cross around the church after Divine Liturgy. (This feast was transferred this year from its normal commemoration date of August 1st). The origin of this feast is explained from the following: “Because of the illnesses which occur during the month of August, it was customary at Constantinople to carry the Precious Wood of the Cross in procession throughout the city for its sanctification, and to deliver it from sickness.” View a few photos below.
